  • Ipswich Room Archives & Local History

WelcomeStacks of books with local history subjects.

The Ipswich Room Archives at the Ipswich Public Library is just one of several institutions in our community where the curious public or the endeavoring researcher can dig in, whether they are coming for high school yearbooks, our robust collection of antiquarian documents and rare books, or the genealogical and town record collections. We look forward to your visit and your questions!

Local History Resources

The Ipswich Public Library provides a diverse collection of online and physical resources that patrons are encouraged to consult prior to making an appointment with our reference staff. These resources satisfy the majority of our patrons’ needs and do not require an appointment to use. Use the links below to access or learn more about these resources:

Make an Appointment

Access to the Ipswich Room Archives and its collections is by appointment only. Email our Local History Librarian at hhorner@ipswichlibrary.org or call the Ipswich Public Library at (978) 356-6648 to make an appointment or research request. Due to demand and limited hours, it’s recommended that you make an appointment as far in advance as possible. Drop-in visitors to the archives may not be able to be accommodated, though our reference room staff can offer assistance with accessing our online resources any time during Library operating hours.
